An evening of classical music including works inspired by the local landscape, presented by the Fitzwarren Collective, a group of local musicians and composers.
The Somerset Levels: by Jeannette Owen, a symphonic suite for chamber orchestra in three movements. The music depicts the vast skies and flat lands of the Levels and local landmarks. Jeannette concentrates her work on writing bespoke music for members of her local community.
The Elephant in the Room: by Natalie Clayton, refers to a conversation she had regarding her age whilst working as a teacher and demonstrates themes of anger, frustration and ultimately defiance.
The Suite from The Lorry Driver’s Lunch: by Rupert Kirby, takes some of his favourite melodies from the series The Lorry Driver’s Lunch, a collection of folk style fiddle tunes he wrote in Somerset lay-bys whilst working as a lorry driver.
Dancing in the Park: by Emily Feldberg, inspired by a memory of her aunt dancing on the grass in Blenheim Gardens, Minehead in 1964, where she threw off her shoes, hat and handbag and exploded into dance.
Escapade and Coast: by Alice Thomas, two chamber pieces for two flutes and clarinet composed specifically for Jeannette Owen, Amanda Ayling and Alice Thomas.
