On this day, Fri 5th July, we have an early show and late show bundled together to make a night of pure laughter.
Early Comedy Show – Suzy Bennett – Forty Sem
Proud Janner Suzy has settled back in her hometown, topping up her accent to tell hilarious tales of living back with Mum, lockdown regrets, finding love with a man in the audience, learning that peri-menopause is nothing to do with hot sauce, negotiating hipster eateries, blending in with the youths at festivals, #Wildswimming adventures and maybe most importantly – where to find the best pasty in town.
Suzy embraced midlife after finding her ‘gumption’ partly in thanks to fellow ‘47er’Kate Winslet and a word of advice from a random woman in an airport.
Her relatable stories have people crying with laughter and there’s rarely a dry eye (or seat) in the house!
Suzy was thrilled to be included in the Evening Herald ‘Top 50 Coolest people’ list. It was in no particular order so decided she was probably third after Tom Daley and Larry Speare.
Winner of the Funny Women Award.
Finalist in Jimmy Carr’s Comedy Idol
Best ‘fancy strut’ – Gold Star Majorettes
Awarded ‘Top Fan’ badge on Plymouth Live.
Late Comedy Show – Jon Wagstaffe – Look at the Council Estate of Him!
If you haven’t seen Jon do his comedic sets then you’re up for a whole load of laughter coupled with some familiarities that will put you in stitches. His show ‘Look at the Council Estate of Him!’ is hilarious and must see throughout Somerset Comedy Festival.
Born poor, raised poor and stayed poor.
An honest and insightful show following Jon Wagstaffe and his 40-year struggle.
An only child born in a benefit supported home in the midst of a drug and crime riddled estate through to the damaged and confused adult who still resides there as a husband and father of three.
Tales of love, loss, faith, betrayal and the day-to-day hardships of living life to the fullest while existing at the bottom.
