Preview night: Thursday 9th January 6-9pm. ( All art lovers welcome) This will include an exclusive showing of Nick’s animations alongside improvised music created in response to the images.
Exhibition opens on Tuesday 7th Jan and finishes Sat 25th Jan. Gallery/Cafe open 10 – 4pm Tue – Sat ( Except Friday afternoon from 12 noon)
Artist statement: Life is confusing, sometimes bad things happen, and we can easily be bored. A GREAT ESCAPE shows how I dealt with this by doing ceramics, drawings, paintings, installations and animations. A means to escape; and also a way to learn about oneself and the world about us. The key, though, is fantasy and contrasting that with reality.
I have not been to art college but have done art most of my life. This has been in combination with working full-time, helping raise a family and being interested in current affairs. This mix of activities has worked well for me. Art has become increasingly part of everything else. It is liberating not having to sell anything but there is still a need to impress other people. Luckily, also, I have had a lot of guidance and support from individuals and groups, including several professional artists, in Devon and Somerset.
