ISQ are a critically-acclaimed post-jazz/alternative quartet from London. Described as “EST with vocals”, this crossover jazz outfit embrace “the song” as an improvisational framework to move into different – sometimes unexpected – sonic directions and moods.
ISQ will be releasing and touring their much-anticipated third album this Autumn and into early 2020. It is in a live setting that these musicians really show their jazz roots, expanding the framework of the songs and relishing in the musical spontaneity and interplay. Hear them when you get the chance.
“…ISQ is perfecting its craft, becoming one of the most recognisable bands on the scene…” ALL ABOUT JAZZ
After two critically-acclaimed brave and original albums, ISQ are currently embarking on their third release. Their recent singles from the upcoming album – ‘Paper Doll’ and ‘Ode To Myself’ – show a consolidation and maturing of their own inimitable style – the use of space and dynamics along with Serra’s evocative lyrics that weave stories of a rare intensity. Each song creates a visual storyline – a movie-ette in the listeners head, that connect to an audience well beyond just the jazz one.
Scheduled for release in Autumn 2019, the third album will coincide with a UK tour of jazz clubs and festivals and the band are looking to expand their horizons towards the rest of Europe in 2020. It is in a live setting that ISQ really show their jazz roots, expanding the framework of the songs and relishing in the musical spontaneity and interplay. Hear them when you get the chance…
Featuring Irene Serra (vocals – Wynton Marsalis, Norma Winstone, US3), Richard Sadler (double bass – founding member of the Neil Cowley Trio), Naadia Sheriff (piano – Yazz Ahmed, Hermeto Pascoal) and Chris Nickolls (drums – Andy Sheppard, Jean Touissant).
