Come and enjoy a fun Ceilidh dance night out with traditional live Ceilidh music at CICCIC. Plus during dance breaks Mitchell & Kirby will be performing amazing folk music.
Ceilidh dancing is a great deal of fun, energetic and a wonderful way to socialise and fun to share with friends. Not only will have the chance to hear some quality live folk music from one of the best Ceilidh duos in the South West but you’ll also find the dancing simple to learn and satisfying to dance to.
You do not have to be experienced and may even be a first timer to Ceilidh dancing, but remember that Rupert Kirby and David Mitchell seamlessly match and weave the traditional with their own original compositions together to create tune sets which are great to listen as well as dance to. Plus, Olive Mitchell has been calling dances for over 15 years and known for her welcoming and friendly calling style. She is a regular at Chard Folk Dance Club.
About Mitchell & Kirby
Rupert Kirby is an experienced folk musician, having been part of the wider folk scene singing, playing and recording with many folk groups and festivals. Rupert has extensive experience in music education, teaching in primary, middle and secondary levels and working with school choirs and instrumentalists. He plays fiddle music from a wide variety of genres, including UK and Irish folk fiddle, jazz and classical styles and enjoys playing in concerts and ceilidhs alike! He is a prolific writer of contemporary folk fiddle tunes, notably a collection called ‘The Lorry Driver’s Lunch’. Recently he has started up a regular Taunton Sunday afternoon folk tune session with enthusiastic players playing both his own and more traditional repertoire.
David Mitchell describes his guitar playing as “Folk-Classical fingerstyle”, combining these genres to create a beautiful and unique take on some well known pieces and traditional folk tunes as well as performing his own original compositions. David has enjoyed performing solo guitar at a range of lovely venues including Downend Folk & Roots, Banbury Folk Club, The Amadeus, Wessex Acoustic Folk Club, Fivehead Folk & Acoustic Music Night, VegFest Bristol as well as many other public and private events.
David’s debut solo album, Contours, released on the 18th of October 2024 has been described as “tremendous” by Alan Ritson of Fine Folk (LCR FM) and “excellent” by Robert Ford of The Folk & Roots Show (Abbey FM).
So come along and enjoy a great night out and book your place before tickets sell out.
