Club Kongo brings a mix of kick ass rock n roll to CIC…3 bands, go go dancers, vinyl DJs and 1960s light show – YEP your heading for a full on freakout!
Headlining tonight’s Kongo are PALOOKA 5 who play 1960s tinged ‘sci-fi surf music’.Think B52s with a ‘bad vibrations’ modern twist. Signed to the ‘Spinout Nuggets’ record label their three LPs and one 45rpm EP have received spins from BBC Radio 6 Music DJs Gideon Coe, Tom Robinson and Deb Grant, including an ‘IN CONCERT’ broadcast! Plus tons of USA airplay on SIRUS XM from Drew Carey and Little Stevens (yes im’ from The Sopranos!) Underground Garage Show. Palooka 5 tick all the boxes for that curl shootin’ shape throwing surf hoodang in space you’ve always dreamed of!
Main support comes from Bath’s young punks QUICK ROMANCE. If the bass line from The Rezillos’ “Flying Saucer Attack” married the vocal line from X-Ray Spex’s “Oh Bondage, Up Yours!”, with The Shangri-Las as bridesmaids; that’s (a) Quick Romance.
Opening tonight are Bristols FEDERAL BUREAU OF JAZZ. A guitar trio hailing from Bristol. Heavily steeped in the sounds of 60s crime film (Lalo Schifrin) they blend together surf guitar, funky bass and jazzy beats and steal what they can from the world of jazz.
Shaking it tonight are our fab 1960s go go dancers, the fabulous ‘The Cocktail Shakers’. Expect finger poppin, jaw droppin moves from one of the countries top go go dance troupes.
Back by popular demand and spinning top quality 45 rpm vinyl all night will be Spinout Nuggets Record label boss DJ Lee Grimshaw – expected another scorched dance floor mix of surf, mod, freakbeat and ska that sent the punters nuts last time
Doors 7.30pm. First band on at 8.30 – 11.30pm finish.
