Join us for an amazing and energetic night of Cuban Latin Fusion Jazz music with band Café Square and with percussion, drums, bass, piano and sax playing a mix of traditional and contemporary tunes you will equally enjoy listening to these amazing musicians sitting down or dancing.
“Cafe Square” a new and exciting quartet from the Southwest!
Introducing “Cafe Square” a fresh and captivating quartet / quintet from the Southwest that blends various musical styles. The band members each possess a rich background in music, which has inspired them to create a fusion of Cuban rhythms, Latin music, Funk Jazz, and Modern Jazz’s harmonic complexity.
“Cafe Square” repertoire includes not only original compositions but also some of the great contemporary classics by composers such as Chucho Valdes, Jao Donato, Oscar Hernandez, Pat Metheny or Steve Wonder.
As accomplished individual artists, we are thrilled to be a part of this new project and deeply committed to sharing our music with the world. With so much musical experience between us, we are excited to explore this new avenue of creativity and bring our unique sound to audiences everywhere.

Milly Riquelme – Piano, Keyboard, Vocal
Milly is a Pianist and singer born in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. She studied classical piano till grade 8 advance. Her degree is in Musicology with Honors from the Institute Superior of Arts (ISA) in Havana. Since 2006, Milly has collaborated as a Musical Director and pianist with Cuban Salsa and Latin bands in Havana since 2006. In 2007 Milly joined as a Pianist the popular band “Conexion Salsera”, and recorded an album in addition to collaborating with many other well-known Cuban Musicians that include both Nicolas Sirgado and Mayito Ribera, pillars of the popular Cuban and Latin jazz in Cuba. During 2007-2008, Milly toured as a pianist developing a special taste for jazz.
She has lived in the United Kingdom since 2009, collaborating with the guitarist Tom Toomey, and other musicians and Musical Directors, playing also in Musicals and collaborating with theatrical work. Also, as well as recording, writing and contributing to the album Gambia, a musical project that is supported by the charity ‘Music for Africa’.
Daniel Pogorzelski – Tenor and Soprano Saxophones, Wind Synth
Daniel is an accomplished musician. He performs regularly with his own DPQ Jazz Quartet and is in high demand as (both as a sideman and Band leader) in and around the Southwest.
He is known among his friends for his passion for jazz music. Daniel fell in love with the genre many years ago. While residing in Poland, he took lessons from the renowned Polish saxophonist Piotr Baron and was simultaneously engaged in multiple fusion jazz projects and avant-garde experiments. Currently, he plays primarily with several projects, including, spiritual jazz, gospel, Cuban Jazz, Latin, and Fusion music. He also runs a highly successful woodwind repair business servicing many top end clients & from this point of view truly knows the intricacies & subtleties of the instrument.
Federico Leonori – Double Bass and Eclectic
Federico is based in Bristol, he is often seen playing with various bands throughout the UK and mainland Europe but started playing the bass guitar in his teens. The accidental discovery of Mingus’s music was his inspiration in starting to play jazz and the double bass. He later enrolled for a Master Degree in Classical Double Bass at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory of his hometown Rome, while pursuing an active performing schedule in Classical Orchestras, Jazz Big bands and small groups. He graduated under the guidance of one of the leading European double bass player, Daniele Roccato, in 2014. During his studies, he deepened his knowledge of the jazz idiom by attending masterclasses and workshops. Federico was also lucky enough to have the chance to study with many jazz legends including John Abercrombie, Uri Caine, Cameron Brown, Eddie Gomez & Dave Liebman.
Ben Waring – Drums and Percussion
Ben has played professionally in both Europe and the Americas, working all over North and central America as a studio session drummer, and has written radio jingles for Mexican and Canadian radio. Ben continues to play in a variety of ensembles from Latin and Funk through to experimental Jazz. He has been teaching drums and percussion since 1995.
Jon Whitfield – Drums
Jon is a drummer and educator from Bolton, Lancashire now living in the South West. After graduating in Jazz at Leeds College of Music Jon worked throughout Europe and the USA and has played and recorded with, amongst others, Jim Mullen, Alan Barnes, Peter King and Julia Fordham.
There will be plenty of room to dance and you’ll get the chance take in over 120 years of combined music experience from some the best players from the South West.
This event is a part seated and part standing event.
