We have the pleasure of bringing some of the best jazz players from the South West to perform this amazing and intimate concert at CICCIC’s Memorial Hall, and as one of the directors favourite jazz bands you assured a quality performance both technically and musically.

About Daniel Pogorzelski Quartet

The DPQ (Daniel Pogorzelski Quartet) play straight ahead acoustic jazz with warm Bossa Nova and Cuban Jazz songs with hints of 50s/60s/Blue Note Era and have twice supported Pete Long and his Goodmen (Ronnie Scott’s Big Band) – 2014 Benny Goodman & Glenn Miller – 1939 Carnegie Hall Jazz Concert.

Daniel Pogorzelski
Tenor and soprano saxophone player. Professional woodwind instrument technician, and jazz maniac as his friends called him. In truth, he can honestly admit to fall in love with jazz many years ago. In the past being involved with some fusion jazz projects and avanguard experiments. Nowadays he plays with various projects including Cuban jazz, big bands, New Orlean influenced street music (LittleBigHorns), jazz fusion projects and enjoying very exciting project with his DPQ quartet/quintet.

Richard Llewelyn
Brought up in a jazz mad household he has been playing guitar since he was 7. He has worked in education, played with Arcadia Jazz Band for 18 years and has been fortunate to work alongside artists such as Kathy Stobart, Tony Roberts, John Critchenson, Rosemary Squires, Pete Strange, Chris Gradwell and Henry Lowther and played in support bands for the likes of Humphrey Lyttleton, George Melly and Kenny Ball. He has regularly ‘woodsheded’ with Tony Roberts since 2008 developing musical ideas and techniques and regularly deputises for other bands. He currently regularly plays with DPQ, Tony Roberts, Rachael Roberts & the Gatsby Gang and Duncan Anselm’s Blue Note project.

John Whitefield
Jon is a drummer and educator from Bolton, Lancashire now living in the South West. After graduating in Jazz at Leeds College of Music Jon worked throughout Europe and the USA and has played and recorded with, amongst others, Jim Mullen, Alan Barnes, Peter King and Julia Fordham.

Luke Bechler
Luke is a New Zealand born bass player who took up the bass guitar at age 13 by chance when copying a friend who was signing up for lessons. At the time Luke did not know what a bass was but soon fell in love with the instrument. After developing a passion for jazz music, Luke went on to study jazz upright bass at the Christchurch Jazz School. Since moving to the UK Luke has become a household name on the Somerset scene playing with many of Somerset’s finest.
