Arts Taunton – Tyca Festival 2021
Schools’/Colleges Open Visual Arts Competition
We invite entries for the above Visual Arts Competition. This event will showcase, 2D, 3D, Photography plus a new category for Digital (computer generated) artwork by students and young people between 11 and 25 years of age who live in or attend school/college in the Somerset West and Taunton area.
As in 2020, the artwork for the competition and exhibition will be entered in digital format – a photograph of the artwork will need to be prepared as per the instructions on the entry form.
The competition features voucher prizes, certificates of merit, a digital exhibition at CICCIC Paul Street, Taunton between October 24th and 30th, 2021.
Competition Details
The Tyca Festival Competition will this year accept entries in two age groups:
- School Years 7-11 (11 to 16 years of age)
- School Year 12+ (16+ to 25 years of age)
This is an OPEN SUBJECT competition and your original artwork should be entered in one of the following categories:
*2D: painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, collage
*3D: ceramics, sculpture, jewellery, construction, textiles
*Photography
*Digital Artwork: work created using digital technology
All secondary students and young people up to the age of 25 living in or attending school/college in the Somerset West and Taunton area are invited to participate.
One piece of artwork per category is allowed, but entrants may enter more than one category.
Artwork can be created while the student attends school/college. During the registration process, students will be asked to list their teacher’s name for artwork if it was created in class during school. We want to acknowledge the contribution of Art Teachers on behalf of our students and community.
Artwork that was created outside of school may submitted so long as the work was the sole work of the entrant.
Judges/Judging Criteria
An independent panel of judges with experience in (practicing, teaching, or representing) the categories will judge the competition. The criteria used for judging are:
- Creativity and originality
- Content
- Degree of expertise in the chosen medium
Awards
Voucher Prizes will be awarded for the best in each category.
There will be a Prizegiving at CICCIC on Sunday October 24th at 3pm for the awarding of prize vouchers and certificates for each section winners and runners-up in both age groups.
Gallery Details
Entries accepted for the competition will be on display for public viewing on the digital screens at CICCIC between 2pm and 4pm on Sunday 24th October – and during their normal opening hours until Saturday 30th October.
Entry to the exhibition is free.
Opening hours are: Saturday1-4pm, Wednesday from 10 am – 4pm, Thursday from 1-4pm, Friday from 1-4pm, Saturday 10am and 4pm.
Artwork
This is a digital exhibition and there are strict rules for size of images that can be uploaded to the screens. Images should be 1920 x 1080 pixels landscape and 1080×1920 pixels portrait.

All artwork files (saved in jpg format) should be clearly labelled with name of artist and title of work.
Entry Details
Please download and complete an entry form from the Tyca or Go Create website, email completed entry form with the image(s) of your artwork for submission attached to your email.

Closing date for entries Monday 18th October at midnight.
Winners
Winners will be notified personally by email to the address on the entry form.
Winners will be invited to receive their prizes on the afternoon of Saturday October 23rd at CICCIC
